Rhein. Looking south towards the Post Tower with the United Nations building in front of it. One of the most unique hotels in Germany. Rent a caravan, a bus or even a train carriage for the night. The cheapest and quickest way to get from one side to the other. Deer and wild pigs are great for the kids in the Waldau park. Balloons at the Torchlight Concert, Poppelsdorf Schloss. The Rhine promenade in Bonn If you visit in April you might see the baby pigs in the Waldau, Venusberg. Everyone is best friends at Carnival time. The biggest beer garden in the world was held in the Rheinaue until about 2013 but has now been superseded by the Bierboerse. The Waldau wild pigs are always fun to watch. Walk with a Koelsch The Rheinaue hosts events almost every weekend through the summer. Your chance to see hot air balloons close up, and ride in one if you want. Bonn Town Hall shown here with cyclists from the Oxford Fire Brigade who did a charity ride from Oxford to Bonn. One of the highlights of the year. Bonn’s Christmas market is really worth a visit. Bonn Post tower, headquarters of DHL. At the end of the number 66 strassenbahn (tram) you’ll find Bad Honnef and the tiny island of Grafenwerth. The torchlight concert in Bonn is held every year and gives kids a great chance to be out late at their own event. The Oxford fire service (Oxford, UK, is the Twin Town of Bonn) cycled all the way here in 2014. These are the giant lilly pads in the Popplesdorf-located University Botanic Gardens. (Botanischer Garten) Huge fish can be seen in the Japanese garden in the Rheinaue, Bonn. Hirschkaefer (Stag beetles) and other large beetles can be seen at warm dusks. (Pic: Venusberg) This is one of the theme rooms at the Kameha grand hotel. The games room. On the marketplace in Bonn – First Flush. A great tearoom with incredible teas. Just south of the North bridge, west-side of the river. You’ll find a small beach. The Rhein is a busy shipping lane but it’s possible to take a boat, canoe or kayak out on it. Grafenwerth Island on the left, looking towards Bonn. Altenahr Burgfest Up on the Venusberg and visible from many miles around. 180 meters high reaching to 351 meters above sea level. Just south of the main Bonn / Cologne airport you’ll find Hangelar. Beethoven was born in Bonn. He wasn’t an Elvis impersonator though. Looking down from behind the University Hospital on Venusberg you can see Bad Godesburg and the Drachenfells. The Rhein river cuts between the two. As the sun goes down in Bonn there’s always a photo opportunity looking south west. Open air concerts run through the summer in the main park. Go to the Kreuzbergkirche for one of the best views of sunset in Bonn Bonn has a Cricket team. Go to the south of the Rheinaue park to watch. 180 meters high and insulated from the earth. Lightning doesn’t strike here. There’s a lot of history here. This Catholic church was built between the 11th and 13th centuries. There’s a lower-level courtyard accessible from the left side. Bierboerse! The annual beer festival is family friendly and includes music, food and other attractions. Bonn International School building. (BIS) You can still find gas-powered streetlights in Bonn. Look around the Popplesdorf Alle. This isn’t the main building of the United Nations in Bonn, but it’s the most beautiful. It’s just south of the Rheinaue park, close to the river Rhein. Strange things happen just 150 meters above Bonn in the Winter. The cooler air brings a surprising amount of snow to the Venusberg. The moat in front of the Popplesdorf Schloss, at the end of Popplesdorf Alle. Walk along the Rhine riverside and you’ll see some interesting architecture. If you fancy some cycling in Bonn, get yourself up to the Kottenforst. Burgfest Altenahr The Post Tower is the tallest building in Bonn and very impressive close-up. Just south of Bonn on the east side of the river you’ll find the start of the vineyard fields. Every weekend at the Nordschleife is a car fans dream. At the end of the number 66 strassenbahn (tram) you’ll find Bad Honnef and the tiny island of Grafenwerth. Grab a coffee, ice cream or beer, just 100 meters from the main bus and train station. The Popplesdorf Alle is lined with Conker trees. (Horse Chestnut) You might find children collecting them in September because Haribo hold an event each year. Swap conkers for sweets!
